Threading Instructions

Threading the upper thread:

Make sure that that thread take-up lever and the presser foot are
in their highest positions.

1) Pull out the spool pin and place the spool of thread on it. Hold beck the spool with the tip of your finger and pass the
thread through in the following order: (all t he thread guides are open, including the thread take-up lever).
2) Top thread guide.
3) Universal upper thread tension, marked between 4½ and 5½.

Important to ensure good sewing results:

Give the thread a sharp tug downwards so that it is properly engaged in the tension device.
4) Check spring (from right to left).
5) Thread take-up lever – pass the thread through the rear of the notch in cover (from right to left). The thread will slip
into the opening of the thread take-up lever.
6) Front thread guide.
7) Needle clamp.
8) Needle. It is threaded from the front to the bade . (If the needle threader is used, it must therefore be inserted into the
eye of the needle from the back.)
9) Pull forward about 15 cm (6″) of thread to the front.

Threading Your Machine.

A. Raise the presser foot lifter. Always be sure to raise the
presser foot lifter before threading the top thread. (If the
presser foot lifter is not raised, correct thread tension cannot
be obtained.)

B. Turn the hand wheel toward you until the needle is in its
highest position and the thread take-up is visible.

C. Thread the machine with your left hand while firmly gripping
the thread with your right hand in the following order as
illustrated.
* Guide the thread through thread guide (1), and then pull it
into the pre-tension guide (1a).
* Pull the thread into the tension discs, passing the thread to
the left of plate (2). Then guide the thread to the bottom of
the groove.
* Do a U-turn around the inside of the tab (3).
* Pass the thread through the thread take-up (4) from right
to left.
* Pull the thread into the inside of the take-up lever until it
reaches the eye of the lever.
* Guide the thread into the thread guide (5).
* Pass the thread through the eye of the needle (6) from
front to back. (See following page for instructions on
operation of the Automatic Needle Threader.)

IMPORTANT:
To verify that the machine is threaded properly in the
tension discs, do this simple check:

1.) With the presser foot raised, pull the thread towards the
back of the machine. You should detect only a slight
resistance and little or no deflection of the needle.

2.) Now lower the presser foot and again pull the thread
towards the the back of the machine. This time you
should detect a considerable amount of resistance and
much more deflection of the needle. If you do not detect
the resistance you have miss-threaded the machine and
need to re-thread it.

Place spool on spool pin as shown, with thread coming from the back of the spool.

1. Draw thread into thread guide using both hands.
2. While holding thread near spool, draw thread down into the tension area and
then around the check spring holder.
3. Firmly draw thread up and through take-up lever from right to left.
4. Then draw thread down and slip it into the lower thread guide.
5. Draw thread down and slip it into needle bar thread guide.
6. Thread needle eye from front to back.

NOTE: You may want to cut the end of thread with sharp scissors for easier needle threading.

Threading Instructions

Threading the upper thread:

A) Turn the power switch to 0.
B) Check that the needle is fully raised.
C) Raise the presser foot. Place thread spool on one of the spool holders and hold while threading.
D) Slip the thread into the first guide on the back of the machine and then take it through the long slit on the thread tension (fig. 1).
E) Take the thread down through the long slot A on the front of the machine, slip it into the thread regulator B, up into the slit of the thread take-up C and down
again to the thread guide D on the needle clamp (fig. 2).
F) Thread the needle from front to back.
G) The eye of the needle is easy to see against the white plate on the presser foot shaft. Pull the thread approx. 10 cm (4 “) through the needle.

When using special threads such as metal or embroidery threads which wind quickly off the spool, thread the supplementary guide on the handle to control the thread feed.

When using the supplementary guide, take the thread directly from the spool to the guide and raise the handle (fig. 3). Continue threading as described above.

Bringing up the lower thread

1) Turn the power switch to 1
2) Hold the end of the upper thread and sew a stitch by tapping the foot control once. Pull the upper thread to bring the lower thread up through the stitch plate hole (fig. 1). Take both threads through the slot in the presser foot and to the side of the foot.
Instead of tapping the foot control, the lower thread can be brought up by turning the handwheel forwards until the needle is in its highest position .

Threading Instructions

   1) Turn hand wheel to raise take-up lever to highest point.

   2) Raise stitch chart cover and place thread on either of the two spool pins.

  3) Lead thread through all threading points shown, including the thread control.

  4) Thread needle from front to back.

  5) Draw sufficient thread through eye of needle with which to start sewing.

The automatic thread control, located above the tension, ensures a smooth flow of thread
from spool to needle. This device eliminates spool weight and drag by pulling off a
measured amount of thread before it passes through the tension discs.

CAUTION: On Console Models, make certain that Stitch Chart is closed before lowering
machine into cabinet.
